I’ll be doing my own research as well, but every couple years I like to get into a new bike to stay with modern tech and styling, and to do the best I can at keeping the money I’ve invested into biking – into biking!
I currently have a 2023 stumpy evo and absolutely love it. Shorter travel but feels bottomless – short reach but still full 29er so it’s playful and confidence inspiring – several frame adjustments to customize it to my liking.. slacked out for steep / aggressive descents, but climbs like a race bike.
Id like to stay in the same realm of bike, but also change it up a bit to keep it exciting.
I love the idea of the newer styles of short travel slack bikes like the canefield tilt or the SC 5010.. any insight on these kinds of bikes?
Would love to hear what bikes yall think are rad / are stoked about!

Great post honestly, getting ideas of what others are looking at for future bikes.
I’m currently on a trek roscoe 8. Got into the sport around April this year and have been loving every minute of it. Told myself I’d ride the hardtail for a year before getting a FS to make sure I actually do like mountain biking, and to learn some basic fundamentals before dropping that kind of money.
That year is quickly approaching and I’m wanting to get a full sus sooner rather than later now lol. With that being said I’ve been doing a lot of research myself and am learning toward either a trek fuel gen 6 or one of the new stumpys. Still trying to decide on which component level I’ll go for and I need to go test ride both of them first. But it seems like every day I have my mind made up on one or the other. Any input from any others would be greatly appreciated as well!
Love my Stumpjumper EVO – it’s such a beast and a cool looking bike! I’m currently waiting on the next version of the Specialized Enduro/EVO and will be picking those as my next ride!
How do you afford a new bike every couple of years? I just buy one and ride it until it’s worn out, donate it, and then buy another one.
I’m enjoying this High Pivot trend right now. I’ve got a Gen 6 Trek Slash. It feels great in chunk, heavy G berms, and big hits. If I didn’t snag the Slash for a good price, I’d be eyeballing the Hope HB916 very hard.
Past few years I had a enduro. stumpy evo. Epic evo. tall boy. mega tower. Im back on a stumpy evo and think it’s the current pinnacle for what i want out of a bike. It’s lighter then my sc tallboy was but has substantially more travel. Way more playful than the enduro and mega tower. I’ve spent a lot of money to end up pretty much where I started. Let me know if you find something better cause I haven’t lol
I’ve yet to see one in person, and ordering from Europe to USA makes me a little nervous, but the Atherton bikes look incredibly and people seem to love how they ride

I’m building up a Forbidden Druid V2 to replace my Stumpjumper Evo and Spur. All the parts (excluding shock) are coming from my evo, which includes a 160mm zeb and some TRP dhr evo brakes. I’m still wrapping my head around the 160/130 travel combo, but there are people racing EWS in a similar config so it’s gonna be super capable.
I really like the idea of the solely rearward axle path, particularly how that helps the rear wheel get up and over rocks and roots. From what I’ve read it’ll make a massive difference for the janky tech trails I ride, which are a healthy mixture of XC and DH. My Spur was great for the former, and my Evo was great for the latter. I’m expecting the Druid to do both extremely well, while retaining the high pedal efficiency and more playful nature of the Spur.
Was pleasantly surprised by the new Stumpy. Sipping the high stack kool aid has worked very well for a number of brands, and it’s made that new Stumpy a control machine, no silly riser bar needed. (The Status 170 also looks rad, if you want a great build that isn’t as awkward as the Stumpys)
Going to grab a YT Jeffsy MX tho, as the Stumpy builds are awkward and pricey. Love what YT is doing with their line up, and can’t wait for it to bleed over into the Izzos eventually. Low end Shimano instead of low end SRAM. As well as Bomber suspension. I tried their new SN ebike and that thing is pretty amazing. Feels surprisingly similar to the non-motorized Capra. While I’m not a huge e-bike guy, it’s the first one that really got me side eyeing. GOod direction for ebikes. ALso glad they are slowly switching to threaded BB it seems… But sadly the carbons are still PF.
Always love what Pivot is doing but I’ll never afford one so I try to ignore it.
Marin is still doing absolutely awesome. I’m kinda iffy on the new Alpine Trail in some ways, but it looks ok. The Rift Zone is an amazing value and the San Quentin is the best value hardtail on the market. ALso their new ebikes with Bosch motor look rock solid, even tho I’d never get one.
Really bummed at what SC did to the 5010 and Bronson, and I don’t understand what this means for the NOmad basically. Unless they outright remove it. SC sipped the kool aid a bit too much… THe only model I’d really want to try from them is the 5010 but even then I’d still prefer the previous version with dual 27.
Norco has some great bikes, such as that Fluid, but they need to bring back the silver with red fork! The new colors are like… Offensively bad. Still a great build and value though. And my gf got the basic FLuid hardtail and it’s great. Punches above it’s weight.
Fairdale is awesome, with the BMX like Elevator hardtail and Hareraiser DJer. Bummed they have skipped 27 wheels in their line up but… What they did with 26 and 29z looks very good. Would love to own both if I could.
Lastly, love the super lightweight Canyon Spectral ebike as well as the SUPER heavyweight SCOR 6080 ebike. Though I will never own either. But I love the sort of opposite ends of the spectrum builds. The Canyon looks like it feels like a normal bike… The Scor is like a self shuttling DH bike. Somebody has to throw a DC fork on that thing. It only makes sense!!
