It is illegal to cycle on a public road after dark without bike lights and reflectors, so Cycling UK have brought you this video to teach you about what is legal. For more information read our lighting guide: https://www.cyclinguk.org/cyclists-library/regulations/lighting-regulations
Exactly which lights and reflectors, where to fit them and when to light up, is defined by the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations. When you ride a bicycle in the dark, the law requires that you have lights and reflectors; and the law is quite specific as to what lights and what reflectors you use.

How do have reflectors on clipless pedals
Annoying when people put a video on and they dont answer questions
Damn. The Uk is strict as hell. Here in America we ride with no lights or reflectors. I personally dont is because when I have wrecked before I have had bits of a reflector go into my leg
Hi thanks for the video! I have two questions, 1'st the rear and front light needs to be on constantly or can they be flashing this also goes for the rear light? 2'st question is the back light needs to be able ached to the bike or can it be attached to a back pack etc rear of the bike and can it be flashing? Best regards Ricardo
There we have it – the law clearly stated for the multitude of cyclists who have never read any road usage regulations.
Yes, both lights
front and rearcan be flashing or constant, however, if constant they should be approved to BS 6102/3.You must also carry spare batteries when cycling at night in Northern Ireland UK and a bell is also mandatory
Just to add that a front white reflector is only recommended, not mandatory by law in the UK.
