Any thoughts on this older Peugeot I got recently? There’s pedal overlap, which I can deal with but when the pedal itself hits when turning hard while going slow it gets me to wonder if something is wrong. Could the cranks be too long? I don’t think the front fork is bent, what do you think?

Maybe the frame originally meant for 650b and someone tossed on 700c wheel set?
Have you compared to other examples of the same Peugeot? To me looks possible that the front fork is bent backwards from a crash.
Your front fork is bent the gap between your tire and the down tube is way too close not to mention the angle of the fork with the head tube is not aligned. It’s slightly bent back.
Those forks look bent backwards. Probably quite unsafe to ride. Inspect the frame where the downtube and toptube meet the headtube. If there are any ripples or dents the frame could be toast. If not then just get a new pair of 1” threaded forks.
Take a picture of the fork from behind. Also a profile picture of the down tube near the head tube. If the fork is bent, you may see paint cracks towards the top of each leg at the back of the fork. If the frame is buckled you’ll see a wrinkle underneath the down tube usually around an inch away from the head tube. <3
Fork and/or head tube look bent, but it is not unusual for frames that small to have some overlap if it has 700c wheels.
This bike has been in a front end collision; it’s there to be seen. Check underneath the downtube at the headtube for rippling. Also, the bars rotate freely and smoothly. If not you could have a bent steerer and/or headtube.

As others mention, your fork is toast. You could replace the fork if and only if you verify that the frame remains undamaged, which looks to be the case but is very hard to tell from a photo. That said, you’ve got a low-end bike with (shudder) steel wheels and a heavy-ass frame, so I wouldn’t even bother considering a fork replacement if I were you.
There’s a tool – I think made by Park- for straightening the fork. Did this to my first “real” (non dept store) bike.
It was a gift from the LBS to encourage a teenager to get into cycling, and it worked. The frame had been crashed and replaced, the head tube also bent in “a little”, but after straightening the fork it was rideable. I did upgrade to a used Cannondale frame a couple of years later.
So I am looking over everything and I am not finding any ripples or otherwise described evidence of further damage to the frame beyond the fork itself.
