I hope it’s obvious from this video… basically that pin on the top that catches the cable seems to not stay tight to the shifter? Obviously that’s an issue right ?

I would replace the cable as well as all of the housing that it runs through. As the steel cable oxidizes, it causes friction, which can cause what you’re experiencing here.
Also consider a slightly nicer shifter, they are cheap and are much nicer to use
Seems like you have to either clean or replace cables and housings. Dirt, grease, and oxide may accumulate or generate inside the housings causing the cable to stick and not run freely.
Yup. Stiff cables. Sometimes a little oil in the right place will be enough. Sometimes a complete redo. Watch for any kinks in the wires, they can straightened very often. You can sometimes unclipped the outers from the frame without dismantling the inner cable from the gears to get better access to the inner to oil/clean/rub with wire wool etc.
Basically the spring in the rear derailleur isn’t strong enough to pull the inner cable all the way back and stop the cable end from popping out. Thus is usually the cables fault but can occasionally be the rear derailleur is gunked up and/or rusty.
It won’t hurt to oil and clean that as well. Make sure it springs back nice and quickly to the high gear position.
Thanks all – the solution was so simple I feel dumb for posting this. I just undid h Th e pinch bolt by the rear derailleur and made sure it was all the way tight . Thanks!!!
