Hey y’all, so I bent my derailleur hanger pretty bad (derailleur got caught in the spokes of the wheel too), and the dropout cracked too. The manufacturer doesn’t have any rear triangles left to replace it with (It’s a 2016 Intense Tracer 275 carbon). I looked online and I didn’t see any others for sale either.
I reached out to a couple of carbon fiber repair places, one said there is not enough of the surface area for them to apply the carbon fiber layout and for the repair to be strong and durable, and the other quoted me $700 + shipping (~$60). The bike needs other work too to get it running smoothly (probably another $300 worth).
The way I see it, I have 3 options:
1) Keep riding the cracked rear triangle and hope it doesn’t explode on me, while fixing the other things, ~$300 in repair costs.
2) Fix the crack, along with the other problems, ~$1000.
3) Buy a new bike (I’d prefer to wait a few more years if possible), $3000-4000
It doesn’t seem like this is a major structural part of the frame, would I be completely dumb to keep riding this?
Also, I’m a little concerned that one of the repair places thinks that the repair won’t stick, but the other doesn’t see a problem. any thoughts on this?
