While riding I lost the screw that held the cleat in place and it prevented me from unclipping the shoe. After returning home I noticed that the loose cleat had badly damaged the sole. Will tightening it more be enough or are the shoes no longer suitable for riding?
I'm learning clipless pedals first time in my life and i was my second ride with these.

They are fine. They will look pretty shredded by the end of their life probably.
They’re still fine. You can also get shims that sit between your cleat and your shoe to protect your shoes.
Sucks that it was on your second ride, but you use this stuff till they wear out. Keep going!
I know it sounds geeky but my standard tool kit includes a set of cleat bolts. Weighs nothing, saves a ride.
The main safety problem is: What if a loose cleat stops you unclipping? This could cause a fall.
It should be possible to put a cleat back on, and tighten the bolts carefully. The damage looks ugly but it doesn’t appear to have fundamentally damaged the shoe structure.
I have never needed threadlock on cleats before, but that could be an option too…? A lot of riders have a little bottle of Loctite threadlock lurking at the back of the toolbox.
Happy riding!
That hurts my soul
The whole sole will look like that fairly shortly. Don’t worry about it. After installing new cleats, check your clear bolts before every ride for a few rides, then every few rides. They like to loosen up.
They are fine
Blue loctite is your friend.
I used my cleats for so long I had to saw them off the sole with an angle grinder
Too much walking / soft rubber on the shoe I guess
A few scratches is no sweat. Ride on!
fascinating
The museum will definitely reject these specimens for their “Bike in Gravel” collection. Quite the shame.
Wouldn’t want your shoes messed up by…dirt and rocks.
You’ll get over it
