Just finished my last bike commute- I got a new 100% remote job so I no longer have an office to go to.

When I started my old job the office was 2 traffic lights away, but after a year they moved 9 very traffic-heavy miles away from my home. I was miserable driving to work- it took away my workout time. I decided to switch to bike commuting and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made- I was really committed and did it all seasons, all weather. I turned in my parking pass.

5000 miles later I’m grieving that it’s coming to an end. It’s not that I won’t keep riding but there’s something about biking for transport that is deeply satisfying- it set me up for a great day on the way in and gave me a reset on the way home. Weather crappy? I would actually get home sooner than driving because of what rain or snow does to traffic around here.

It helped that I had a unreasonably great commute route- half of it on a gorgeous rail trail, 1/4 lightly travelled residential streets, 1/4 a traffic-infested “urban-ish” concrete jungle that gave me the satisfaction of seeing all of the traffic I was bypassing.

Farewell commute and this awesome community! I’ll always be a bike commuter at heart.
