I swapped from a Tektro mechanical disk brake to a Sram G2 RSC, and the G2 caliper does sit all the way down on the rotor. See pics.
Any idea why it's not sitting lower on the rotor like the Tektro did?
It's a 160mm rotor and the adapter is the same one that was on there before.

You don’t want any unused pad.
Are the pads making full contact or no?
Unless I’m missing something, the first photo show the mounts, slotted diagonally slotted as they are, have provision to move the adaptor lower (and higher). Can you not loosen the two mounting bolts for the correct vertical adjustment?
Bigger rotor needed?
The bracket between the caliper and the frame should have rotational markings on it (Probably). Double check that. Ive seen thos miss mounted and cause this type of align issue.
