I am working on this old early 70s 5 speed suburban and im replacing the shift cable housing that was shot but apon taking it apart I realized that the actual cable itself was a solid material and not braided like your traditional cables. This was a bit of a surprise to me since I’ve never seen this before. The derailleur is the first generation shimano positron and the cable housing and cable only work with the positron and nothing else will work with the positron cable and housing. Any idea if I can get a bit of guidance on what to do?
