Today, I am bringing you a story that was a secret for more than 50 years. This is the very first case in history, as far as I know, where the cheaters won the race!
I loved the Wacky Races but Dick Dastardly (and also Mutley), the bad guy – the cheater, never won a race in that series, despite of being pretty close sometimes. That´s not right…
Today is a great day – it´s a kind of situation where Dick Dastardly is winning a race, finally. By cheating, obviously!

note: the film I am showing you in this video is about the 1907 race but they inserted some 1908 race footage in the middle of it. This was normal at the time as, due to the lack of available footage, they could extend the duration of the film and people wouldn´t notice it. It was a novelty after all.

Remember, this is all about an adventure! To be a racing driver and/or a riding mechanic in this era was something like going on a great and long adventure. You never knew when something could go wrong: from a puncture to a faulty magneto, from a crash to an engine failure. They were true pioneers!

  1. Great video! Improving both from the point of view of quality and fun! 😉👍 Interesting story, by the way. And by the way, at 7:48 I noticed how standing on the outside of a corner on exit was already a common mistake of the spectators 🤦🏼‍♂️!

I wish you could find a small book entitled "Dei ex machina" written by Mimmo Dei, unfortunately I'm afraid it has never been translated into your native language or english: it tells the story of an Italian team, operating between '55 and '65, where I remember there are some stories about cheats, such as inserting bushes under the cars to raise more dust and block the visual of following opponents (and pretending it was unwanted, but they were actually tied!), or a little known story about the real origin of the unbeatable Ferrari 156… Yes I know it belongs to five decades later, but I bet you would find the whole book interesting!

  3. Feliz Navidad! Thank you for this! I saw a caravan once of the rich kids in their vintage '30's-'50's racers along the Pacific Coast Highway. Was a beautiful sight those machines. Love your dedication and fantastic videos covering this great history of motor racing. As usual, I pray for Peace on Earth and Goodwill to All Men. Stay blessed, have a Merry Christmas and Peace to All.

  4. It never ceases to amaze me how naïve the spectators were in choosing their spot. It's also fun to see the soldiers and police administer order as if they were preventing revolution.
