Hi there, any bridge lovers here? 🙂
I've put together a collection of the most spectacular bicycle bridges we've cycled over, all located along bicycle routes and situated outside cities. To make the selection more diverse, I chose one bridge from each route.
Among them are both newly constructed bridges built specifically for the bicycle routes and existing ones. These include old, medieval bridges now used exclusively by tourists, as well as railway bridges – our favorites. These are structures that were once part of former railway lines, now transformed into bicycle routes, known as rail-to-trail routes. Of course, there are also simple, local bridges over rivers offering stunning views.
What would you add to the list? Where should we travel next? 🙂
Naturally, the Alpe-Adria alone has several impressive bridges on its rail-to-trail section in Italy, but I had to narrow it down to just Ponte di Mura for this selection.
Selected bridges – first, the post-railway ones:
Siekierki-Neurüdnitz bicycle bridge between Germany and Poland – Berlin-Szczecin-Kołobrzeg Route
Klausmarbach Viaduct in Germany – Hessen Railway Cycle Route
Sully-sur-Loire Walduct in France – Loire by bike
Newly built, specifically for cycling tourism and local connections:
Sarca Bridge in Italy – Cycling Trentino
Fluthbrücke in Germany – Oder-Spree-Tour
Liniebrug in Netherlands – Waterlinie
The Poprad bridge in Poland – Velo Dunajec
And minor things, smaller bridges:
The bridge over the Alfenz River in Austria – Cycling Vorarlberg
The bridge near the Sedlitzer See in Germany – Lower Lusatia Mining Route
The bridge by the Baltic Sea in Poland – EuroVelo 10/13
The entire collection – 17 bicycle bridges from 17 cycling routes across Europe – can be seen here:
