Ayo, i picked up a used bike from a guy and he put a 52/17 ratio on it. I commute to classes in an urban area with a few hills and while it's nice to have the speed, it's so hard to skid and stop. I also have a prob with toe over lap. I'm a broke college kid so looking for the cheapest solution, I'm thinking of j swaping out the rear cog with a 19 or 20. As far as the toe overlap, i have no idea, but suggestions are welcome. Lmk, thanks!

What’s the gear ratio?
Definitely go for the 19t cog as with 52 charging it will give you 19 skid patches, with 20t you would only get 5 which is meh. The ratio should be low enough for you to hit some hills
As for the toe overlap you have two options, cheaper: get skinny front tire, will minimize the issue slightly with the cost of comfort but is cheapest, also bonus points for small sloping top tube you will get by doing that
The best option, just get shorter cranks 165mm as it’s the standard, if you already got them on then sorry but there aren’t any other options as the geo of frame is what it is
A few points
Chuck a 20t on there to help slow down easier
Are you using clipless shoes for the pedals you’ve got?
– Can’t skid/stop ✔️
– Hills ✔️
– Urban area ✔️
Get a front brake ffs
