Took a non drive crank (GRX) off a Canyon with a mere 800km done in the dry and discovered wear off the bottom bracket. Never noticed any noises or crankset getting stuck (it already has some marks from the bearings but I guess that’s normal). Any tips on what to double check to not scratch the new crank arm? I’m want to hold onto the new power meter one for a while. Many thanks for any pointers!

  1. Dirt getting between the crank arm and it rums more on the push down of your pedal stroke. Very normal wear marks. Nothing to worry about

  2. Hard to say.. I had a bike with a raceface crankset with not correctly seated rubbery spring washer that caused some uneven wear (also from canyon). Could also be that you have too little preload causing wear only on one side in the downstroke of one foot when pushed down. Looks like it is just some paint/anodization that is missing so I would reinstall the cranks according to the manual and move on with your life

  3. Could be tight clearance on the frame, carbon frames with big oversize BB shell areas tend to get this type of wear when grit gets lodged in that area
