To give some context, I am training for my first half iron man and have minimal knowledge about bikes. I read that getting a used, high-quality bike is a good way to get started. I want to spend <$1000.
I went to a local bike shop and was shown this Paris Pinarello for $700. Durace group set. It passed my untrained eye test and passed the initial feel / sizing test. I will take it for a longer spin if I decide to go back.
My main questions are: is this a good deal? Is there anything that jumps out to the trained eye / questions I should ask?
Thank you! I would appreciate any insight.

This would be a pass for me.
Old carbon frame, tires look like they need replacing, shift cabling looks horrendous, and both the saddle and handlebar/stem setup look absurd. It might be worth it just in terms of component value, but for a beginner this is not an easy bike to start on.

I’d pass on this as well, for all the points that @moxTR has presented. Any amount of genuine riding would affect the bar tape as the cable housing is tugging out of it. Along with deteriorating the shifting and braking quality with how the cable housings are crossing each other. This shop needs some QC.
This bike is not worth $700. $600, maybe. If properly setup
