I've already got the old Specialized Sirius 1.0 I bought it used fixed the wheel, cleaned it up, runs great, getting in 7-15 mile rides daily the last months. Is the Trek fx 3 Gen 4 really worth the purchase if I already pretty much have a hybrid bike. What I'm trying to say here is, am I really going to notice significant enough difference in speed performance going from the sirrus 1.0? I'm almost at the point where I'm considering getting a road bike instead if I want to go faster, biggest drawback is just some lower back pains. The dealer seems to be intent on trying to convince me that the fx3 Gen 4 will give the significant speed increase that I'm looking for.

You will pay $600 every time you need to change the headset bearings or cables on the FX3
The trek won’t be any faster. Getting better tires for your bike would make a bigger difference.
If you want to ride faster, the FX isn’t going to be a huge step up. You may find that you prefer one bike over the other, but the speed difference will be negligible. Biggest difference makers will be tires, what gears you run, condition of the rider. If anything, I’d just slap some bar ends on the Sirius so you can get a little more aero.
Regarding roadbikes and back pain. I ride 95% of the time on my hoods, not in the drops. If you want a road bike, just get a gravel bike with relatively more aggressive geometry or an endurance style road bike.. either would have a longer headtube and a relatively more upright riding position. No reason you couldn’t put your handlebar height roughly even with the saddle.
For the most part, I ride the same speed regardless of which bike I’m on, MTB aside. Unless actively training, riding in a paceline with a group, etc. Don’t over think it.
I might be wrong but the spesh has a harder top gear so has a higher top speed. Better tyres will help you get there.
The main advantage of the trek is hydraulic disc brakes so much less servicing needed + higher braking power so less finger fatigue if you brake a lot (i.e. commuting). I certainly don’t think v brakes are bad, but hydros are objectively better.
If you want a road bike you can get the sonder colibri for around a grand depending on spec. It’s a medium weight endurance bike with massive tyre clearance. I recommend the tiagra hydraulic or 105 spec.
It’s not any faster given the same tires and bearing health, but hydraulic brakes, bigger tire clearance and 1x gears are big upgrades. If your only annoyance with the Sirrus is speed then the FX3 isn’t worth it.
