From the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, in Warsaw on Poland Independence Day 2024, after some time I wandered towards the Hotel Bristol. Warsaw is a wonderful city for walking. Day or night, the “Royal Route,” which includes the Hotel Bristol, is “the best”. People. Cafes. Rain. Shine. Hot. Chilly (on 11/11/2024). Music. Pop-ups. Balloons. The route and all it encompasses warms the cockles… I was tempted to go into the cafe at the Hotel Bristol but there were so many dignitaries about, it seemed inappropriate so I didn’t. And then I spotted a parade coming toward me, totally different from the military parade of an hour or so earlier. Folks on stilts. Folks on penny-farthing bikes. And then a total mix of people, young and old, music, traditional, modern. An abundance of Polish red. Incredible vibe.
