Hey Canyon fam – I have spent an embarrassing amount of time going back and forth between these two bikes: [Endurace CF SLX 8 AXS Aero](https://www.canyon.com/en-us/road-bikes/endurance-bikes/endurace/cf-slx/endurace-cf-slx-8-axs-aero/2741.html) and the [Ultimate CF SLX 8 Di2](https://www.canyon.com/en-us/road-bikes/race-bikes/ultimate/cf-slx/ultimate-cf-slx-8-di2/3320.html).

I am somewhat new to cycling, but I’ve made a lot of progress both in terms of power, mileage, and skill. I really love this hobby and looking to really keep pushing myself to get better.

I am a fan of the way SRAM does shifting with the pedals and how the battery and app works. It’s just more intuitive to me, especially as batteries can be charged easily (no need to have bike plugged in) and how swappable the batteries are. However, a lot of people swear by shimano ultegra and rave about di2 so I am sure that I would easily get used to shimano after giving it a try.

My biggest observable difference between the two bikes is the cassette 11-30T for the ultimate vs 10-33 for the Endurace. Where I live there are a lot of fairly steep hills so I wonder if the limited gearing of the ultimate would be a challenge? Also, which of these bikes would you say is more future proof? And which provides more bang for buck? As for wheels and tires are there any major riding difference between the two sets of wheels? What of the power meter?

Any advice on insights would be greatly appreciated! Please and thanks!

  1. Don’t focus on trivial things like casettes, these are easily changeable. Groupsets are also a matter of preference, both are fine, it’s not like one is much worse than the other

First of all you NEED to define what you want to do on bike. In general Endurace should be more relaxed and therefore, on average, more comfortable, allowing you to cycle further. Ultimate is more of a race machine, so if you’re looking toward doing some amateur racing, it will be a little bit better.

In the end I don’t think you would be wrong to get either of them, but if you’re beginner Ultimate might be harder on your back (much more aggressive geometry).

Neither of these bikes will be limitation for a very long time
