Bike not shifting gears smooth enough. Would rather fix it myself than take it somewhere. This is what I’m looking at on my 7-speed. Is there a diagram anywhere that explains what I’m looking at? An online bike repair course would be even better. I do know the cable is good.

I recommend Park Tool’s videos. Probably this one is what you need: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkZxPIZ1ngY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkZxPIZ1ngY)
Lube would be a good start.
Park Tool is probably the best resource.

You have an inexpensive derailleur made of stamped steel. It can be very difficult.y to get cheap components to work well. Also check to make sure the derailleur or the claw that attaches it to the droopy are not bent.
The chain also looks a bit too short
That is like the most entry of all entry level stamped steel derailleurs. With the flex, weak spring and poor tolerances of riveting on it you will never get it to shift well. I don’t mean this as a negative! Just that no amount of tuning and knowledge will make it good. Scrape up $20 and buy a 7 speed Shimano Altis or Microsoft and learn how to swap it on. Or hot up a local bike co-op and scrounge their parts bins. You will be in way better shape!
Look up on YouTube how to adjust a rear derailleur. They all work the same way
