I’ve been wanting to race Oceanside Ironman 70.3 for a long time, and I and a old road bike I don’t use anymore as back up, I thought about selling her, to pay for couple of races fee for this year, ( including 70.3 Oceanside)
So I did a proper cleaning and tune up on the bike, she got super dirty bc shes poorly maintained. But after seeing how pretty the she turned out.. I’m very conflicted about selling…I was joking with my roommate, saying this must be how parents feel when they are trying to sell their kids, when they are cleaned and dressed up.
She’s a 2017 Allez Sport, with carbon fiber fork.
What would you guys do? How much would you price her?

Oh looks good and shouldn’t sell it
To be clear on the situation and your question.
You have this bike as a backup/training bike and you want to sell it to fund the registration fees for some kind of Ironman race and you want to know how much the bike is worth?
If so. Here in the UK you will get about £200-300 for that bike.

I wouldn’t sell my kid for an old Allez. A Tarmac SL8 maybe.

I also think it’s wise/valuable to have a spare bike, both so you can leave it on an indoor trainer during the winter and so if your main bike needs repairs, you have another bike to ride when the main one is in the shop. If this is your only other road-ish bike, I wouldn’t sell. If you have several road-ish bikes, yes, sell so “she” can get out on the road again where “she” belongs.

Sell your kid? Nay…
In this economy? Who can afford to have more than one kid? You have to sell the least promising one.
If you don’t need the cash I’d encourage you to keep it until you don’t have room or need the cash. Hopefully neither ever manifests.
Spare bikes are great plus you might wonder how it compares to a newer bike.
May help you – I paid $600 for a pristine 2017 E5 elite this past summer. Yours definitely has more miles on it but looks to be in good condition. I bought mine from an N+1 guy who had an S Works next to it, so the Allez got no love! Better for me!
I may have slightly overpaid for mine, but I was losing patience and the used market around here wasn’t great…either ridiculously expensive or horrible condition.
