So my dad received his new dura ace c36 rear wheel, it was just in a cardboard ultegra wheel box with no plastic or foam protection whatsoever. Noticed 3 scuff marks which have left 3 marks on the inside of the box, and the the split in the carbon rim is in exactly the same spot. The box has a thick side and a thin side, the broken part of the wheel was at the thin end. My question is are these usually supposed to have any protection between the rim and the box?? It seems crazy to have the carbon rim essentially rawdogging inside the box. Wtf??

Where did you order them from?
I’ve ordered both Ultegra C36’s and GRX carbon wheelset from Shimano directly and they are usually packaged very securely with ample cardboard and support (foam bags, free hub protection etc..). Definitely sounds like the sender skimped on the packaging.

I’m pretty sure my C50 had foam at the hubs which held them in place in the cardboard box. There was also one of those foamy plastic bags over each wheel. Certainly not just the naked wheels bouncing around in an otherwise empty cardboard box.

In addition the online bike shop I ordered from put the whole Shimano cardboard box into another cardboard box (I think usually used to ship frames).
