Picked up a “rough” free 80’s Miyata to do some fun build on. Currently looks like a frankenbike and not sure what to focus on or where to start. Handlebars aren’t the originals and a brake lever was added due to the new handlebars. Once again, free is the operative word here.
Question for the class.
Should I:
A: build it back to it’s original state
Or
2: build it as a commuter/ graveler.
Will have to change the handlebars and add a seat and saddle.
Thanks!

Keep the vibe started by those bars and get it sorted around that. Are those bar ends twisted inward for even more laid pack posture? Those should go away if so.
I think you may have semi-horizontal rear dropouts, which could make it a good candidate for single speed, as well (there would be no chain tensioner required). SS is a lot of fun!
Nice frame…I believe it’s triple splined tubes and super fun steel.. personally I owned a 312 around same year and absolutely did a single speed conversion .. just like EdZep789 said
