Join us on a scenic road cycle adventure as we show off our beautiful coastal towns of Bournemouth and Christchurch in Dorset, UK! 🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️ Starting in vibrant Bournemouth Square with its festive Christmas market, we cruise along the stunning Bournemouth Beach promenade and tackle the steep Marina climb from Boscombe Pier to Boscombe Cliff Road. From there, we ride along Southbourne Overcliff Drive, taking in the views on a grey but dry afternoon, and head towards Hengistbury Head Broadway.

The day was set to be perfect for cycling, with a dry afternoon forecast. However, unexpected rain forces us to cut our ride short, adding a touch of drama to the journey! We make our way back home to via the scenic Iford river path, navigating urban cycling infrastructure that highlights the ease and challenges of cycling in Dorset.

  1. You're flying down the road. Mike, get out of the way! 😅 What a difference a tailwind makes. 👍
The weather is dark and gloomy but riding makes it bright and sunny 🚲🌞👍

  2. I honestly think weather forecasting is more inaccurate now than it was 30 years ago! Mind you, forecasts were a bit more vague back then, more of a sweeping generalisation for an entire country rather than today's attempts at postcode accuracy.

People do insist on reversing out into roads, when I was always taught to reverse in off a road and come out forwards as it's safer. But there we go, people eh?

Go out for a ride, come back with a three piece suite… Now that's some proper impulse buying right there! 🤣

    Great stuff as ever!

  3. Well done Mike and Julie very nice ride, , can't rely on the forecast at all, better to rely on the ollld methods red sky at night, cows laying down going to rain pine cones open or closed etc. Enjoy your week

  4. Hi Julie, great to see you out again on a more regular basis. My go to weather app is the 'Weather 24' app. The radar part of it is very accurate. It looks ahead only 2 hours at a time. Just what any cyclist needs.

  5. Well done Mike and Julie. I saw all those buildings, hotels and apartments on my rides there in 1958. Only the McCarthy and Stone 60/70s standard architecture is newer.
Haha, I don’t have a bike computer that advises how many gear shifts remain in the battery – I don’t have any batteries, just stainless steel cables.
    Anyway, good reminiscences. Thanks guys.
Good that you are both getting back to racing form after the winter of discontent.
