


Giant Defy Advanced Pro, 2023. Removed the bottom bracket and this piece of metal dropped out from inside the frame. I have no idea what it is or where it’s from. The bike has never been damaged.
The part is metal, has a sticky pad on one half of one side. Is 11mm x 9mm, 1mm thick. It has a slight curve. No broken edges – it hasn’t snapped off. Is magnetic.
Looks like maybe part of a pawl or a wedge of some sort? Can’t think it came off the front fork / head? I didn’t assemble the bike so maybe it dropped in whilst at the bs?
Would really love to have an idea in case I’m missing something critical! TIA

This is a frame protection piece. It’s meant to stick to your frame under the front derailleur support bolt.
This is the front derailleur (FD) backup plate. Your braze-on FD pushes against this plate to get extra leverage. You can ride without it, but FD shifting might be affected.

that is a shimano “Front Derailleur Support”, it probably fell off the frame not out of the inside. “The Ultegra FD-R8000 Front Derailleur Support Bolt and Plate is used to push the bolt up against in order to not push into your bike’s frame.”
Front derailleur pressure plate for the alignement screw ? (That thing is suppose to be on your vertical tube to take the pressure of the screw that allow alignement of the front derailleur) otherwise, no idea 😅

It’s the little pad that goes behind the front derailleur for the cage angle adjustment to bear against.
As others have said it’s the plate the front mech support bolt pushes against. Definitely stick it back on because you have a carbon frame and you really don’t want a grub screw boring a hole in it. You might get it in without removing the mech if you first back the support bolt out. They’re quite fiddly to get exactly in place particularly with the diverse BB shell shapes on modern frames
