What’s the thinking here
Yesterday I picked up a used Deor XT crank set, and it came with an Absolute Black chain ring. I removed the chain ring to clean everything and was surprised to see that it comes with two size holes. The seller had held it in place with two chain ring bolts and two torx bolts like from your disc brake.
Was the seller using the correct bolts?
What is the thinking behind uneven sized bolt holes on the chain ring?

Those are the bolts that come with small absolute black chainrings. The diameter of the chainring is too small at that spot to accommodate normal chainring bolts.
