What geometry considerations do i need?
Hi, I am looking to change bikes to a downhill (YT tues 2022) from my previous bike (Vitus mythique VRX 2023) but my current bike is a Medium and i have found a YT for a fairly reasonable price, however it’s an XL.
I am 5ft 10, 5ft 11 on a good day, so i thought about moving to a large but i have heard the sizing of YT’s to be on the shorter size. When i found the YT was an XL i thought it would be too large but after researching the geometry of the bike it turns out that my current bike’s reach and geometry specs are fairly similar to the tues, is there any other considerations to be made regarding the size or would it fit ok?
I have left the specs above:

No way. I’m your height and wouldn’t pay money for this bike. Not only is the reach long but also the chainstays. The wheelbase is absolutely huge. You’re stretching to reach the handlebars and the rear wheel is a mile behind you. Yeah you can bomb down straight sections with impunity but the bike will be a mess in corners and good luck trying to manual or bunny hop anything.
What is the refund policy? I’d bet money that it isn’t going to fit well and youll want to return it
Keep shopping… it’s not a good deal if its not the right bike for you, its just a waste of time and money.
Im 6ft and have an size L wich fits perfectly for me (it’s an YT Jeffsy tho) but I would take a look at the website of YT as they have pretty accurate sizing tables in my opinion.
A lot of the geo numbers are common between sizes for most frames across the size range. Head Tube, Seat tube angle, chain stay lengths, etc are often the same so if you are not familiar with all of the various measurements they can all look quite similar.
Stack and Reach are the two easiest ones to look at to see the differences in one size vs the next.
Stack is the vertical distance from the middle of the bottom bracket to the middle of the top of the head tube.
Reach is the horizontal distance from the middle of the bottom bracket to the middle of the top of the head tube.
When you start comparing those dimensions they differences are more apparent. 3/4”-1” difference in stack and reach will make a big difference.
FWIW I’m 5’10” and I mostly ride mediums but I can generally get away with a Large if it’s not too long in reach.
Way too big
5’10 is size L or M. XL is too big.
