For years now, my Fuji Declaration (pictured) has been my go-to bike for commuting.

As a single-speed, it’s low-maintenance, which I love. However, I’ll soon need to add a baby seat so I can take my son along for the ride.

I’m torn: Should I stick with the Fuji—since I’m used to it, and my city is mostly flat—or should I “grow up” and invest in a more child-friendly bike?

What would you do? Are there any parents here who commute with a single-speed bike and a baby seat?

  1. A child’s seat on a bike without a kickstand is not very smart. Also: these mudguards suck. I would also hate to have a single speed drive train with the additional weight of a child, but I guess that’s a matter of personal affinities. I have several bikes and none of them is a single speed lol.
