During transport in a bike box my derailleur ended up at a funny angle and the shifting cable slided over top of the guide it’s supposed to be under (blue line). I didn’t notice until I was riding. Fixed it when I got home but now the cable has frayed a few strands (red circle).

Worth fixing before my race next Sunday? Or probably fine? Not eager to hunt around for local bike shops to redo a cable on the double but will do so if it’s likely to break mid race…

Maybe 300km total of riding between now and on race day.

  2. If it shifts ok might be ok but id definitely change the cable asap. It’s not going to snap but shifting might deteriorate

Only rush if you want to be able to shift when riding. Otherwise, ignore it until it breaks.
