Hi y'all! I'm planning my route for next year. I rode Zurich to Milan last year over Splugenpass and absolutely loved it. I want to do more of Switzerland/mountain passes. I can get a non-stop to Zurich (hence no chance of losing my bike on a layover) so it makes the most sense to start there. I've come up with a route here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/49195970 to get from Zurich to Lyon, France.

Am I missing anything I should see along the way?
Are there some passes I'm missing that I should consider?
Is there any part of the route I've chosen that I should avoid?

Thanks for your time!

Edit: Thanks everyone for your help and feedback! Based on recommendations, I have updated my route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/49197490

  1. From ZH to Lausanne, your route seems ok to me. Apparently, you want to stick to hills rather than lakes or mountains. It’s a matter of taste, really.
From Lausanne to Geneva, I find the lakeside route a bit monotonous (perhaps because I know the region well) but the views are nice.

  2. You can’t really go wrong in Switzerland and that part of France. Everywhere is gorgeous. But I’d go from Lucerne to Sarnen and then via the Brünigpass to Interlaken and then via the northern shore of Lake Thun.

  3. A large part of your route is in the more populated areas of Switzerland (Zurich, Lucerne, Bern area, Lausanne, Lake Geneva, Geneva). Not my cup of tea. I did Zurich – Lyon last year, but went further north via the Jura (through La Chaux de Fonds). Much nicer if you ask me.

  4. Not sure about your route, but I will recommend EV6 along the Doubs river in France. It’s a very well designed bike path with beautiful scenery.
