In this video, you will join me along an exciting eurovelo 8 bikepacking trip on my Brompton as…
I woke up on a windy beach after a restless night. Strong winds and loud techno music from a nearby monster truck attraction kept me up, but waking up to an empty beach made it all worthwhile. However, with beach guards arriving early, I had to pack up and leave quickly to avoid trouble.
Cycling through the scenic coastline, I stopped at a local farmers’ market, tempted by the smell of grilled chicken, but settled for a baguette for breakfast instead.
The day’s route took me past stunning, secluded beaches with golden sand and kite surfers filling the skies. Each beach town felt like a hidden paradise, perfect for a summer getaway.
After a quick nap in my hammock in Argeles-sur-Mer, I left the coast and began the challenging ride toward the mountains and the Spanish border.
The climb was tough, with hot weather and no water points. Near Les Pertus, the last French village, I tackled an 8% gradient climb for 11 km, pushing my Brompton most of the way.
Crossing into Spain, the EuroVelo path turned rough, more suited for hiking than cycling. My bike tripped a few times on sandy, rocky terrain, but I was relieved to eventually find paved roads again. Stopping at a Burger King in La Jonquera after a stressful ride along busy highways was a bittersweet reward: slow service and messy facilities but unlimited drinks.
As night fell, I found myself pushing my bike in the dark along hilly roads toward Figueres, searching for a camping spot. Eventually, I set up my tent at a small patch near an intersection. Tomorrow, I’ll head to Figueres to catch a train and reflect on this unforgettable journey.

The trees you saw could have been young cork oaks. They are harvesting the cork every 7 years or so to produce bottle corks and many other products. Save travels for you! Will you return home?
¡La eurovelo 8 es muy mala! Cortada en Francia y con piedras en España.😢
Are you going to keep recording your bike rides?
