Seems like I did something wrong and the text of report didn’t appear. Here it is:

This March, I went on a short trip from Potsdam to Quedlinburg and ended up covering around 150 km.
I followed the official map of the Saxony-Anhalt Bike Routes. Despite this, some forest roads were… well, let’s call them paths—single trails, really. You can see them in the pictures. Some of the roads were completely covered with leaves. I mean, to the point where you couldn’t see the surface. I didn’t expect such road conditions, but my bike handled it well. Almost.
In one stretch of forest, I caught a branch in the wheel—decline, mud, leaves, a left turn, and then… a branch in the wheel.

It’s a miracle I didn’t fall. My chain wasn’t so lucky, though, and I blame that branch. I’ve been cycling for 10 years without any serious breakages, even during long trip in the mountains. And yet here I was, with a broken chain on the first day of such a short trip! Thankfully, I had already left the forest and was on a perfectly paved bike lane, just 1.2 km away from the nearest village, where I could catch a bus to the closest city with a train station.

Long story short—a prince appeared and saved me. A huge thanks to this guy who helped investigate the situation and pointed me toward the nearest bike workshop in that city, 10 km away. After a brief argument with the bus driver (who initially didn’t want to let me on with my bike), I managed to get on the bus and, eventually, to the workshop. The super nice guy who helped me had already spoken to the owner. So, 15 minutes and 10 euros later, I was back on the road! Such a kind person—I’m eternally grateful to him.

I spent half of the second day battling a very strong headwind, which slowed me down like crazy. And, as the cherry on top, toward the end of the trip, I spent an hour and a half stuck in the middle of a field, under heavy rain, knee-deep in mud.

What a trip! I met so many nice people and learned so much in such a short time. My family joined me then to spend the weekend in beautiful Quedlinburg.

  2. Very nice pictures and text. Curious to see the route for some inspiration, as I live in Berlin myself.
