Central Grimsby has been named Britain’s “worklessness capital,” with over half of its working-age population relying on out-of-work benefits.

An upcoming Channel 4 documentary reveals that 53% of residents in Grimsby’s East Marsh and Port area were on welfare earlier this year.

Of those, 33% claim sickness benefits, 11% receive jobseeker’s allowance, and 9% rely on other forms of support. Life expectancy in the area is just 70 years—12 years below the national average—with over half of residents living in social housing.

Other hotspots for benefit claims include central Blackpool (51%), central Birkenhead (47%), and Drumchapel North in Glasgow (46%).

Julia Hartley-Brewer discuss this and the migration crisis with ex-Chief Brexit negotiator, Lord David Frost.

  1. Clown media, the problem you clowns should be pointing out is that low wage because you would be a very silly clown to suggest living that on under 13,000 a year is living it up,, in fact you sound like every evil clown who loves attacking the weakest in society…

  2. I'm right leaning but this is not a good area to be jabbing at. Many with disabilities/sickness face extra costs especially on energy bills. LCWRA is Rent paid in full, about 80% CT reduction and £800 a month for an over 25. PIP isn't a given.

  3. I call to re-stigmatise benefits.

Benefits should not be a option as an alternative to work.

I want to see food/benefit top up cards. No luxury purchases, no holidays. No day trips allow on the card.

If you want to live a life of luxury, then that is for those that work.

People of job seekers should only be allowed access to a Benefits shop, unbranded items, just the absolute essentials.

  4. The only thing I think they could do is put more money into the DWP, for assessors and investigators. The assessment criteria are already strict: There are a lot of genuinely sick people who get denied benefit under the current system.

Another option is a general cut to out of work benefits.

What is not addressed is that we have an NHS crisis and a ill health crisis. Our system is a shambles for maintaining health and preventing disease. jabs are a serious issue for autism, adhd etc. malnutrition: Dr Gerson found the food we are eating was losing its nutritive value in the 1930s!!!

  5. The NHS is a disease service. It is popping pills and feeding big pharma.

Stop looking for the easy answers. We have a general corruption problem. The underlying problems with nutrition, disease causing jabs are the reason why the sickness bill is going up.

  6. Last year I paid £58,000 in tax and NI. I have been off work since April and have now been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Do you know what I get? £180 every two weeks. So far, that is it and i’m not entitled to anything else. I am waiting for PIP but that will be around £400 per month.
I will get a total of around £760 per month. To live!! I should have looked after my pennies better, i’m acutely aware of that but this kind of stuff sickens me. I’ve paid a lot over the years and I get little to no help. Even being a veteran does nothing.
    Whinge over

  7. Lord Frost. Why is it better that the title is not inherited? Inherited titles kept inthe family generation after generation means they care about their country and history. If youve bought the title or been given it for making loads of money etc then its just a status symbol.

  8. How any Tory can try to talk about borders and immigration with a straight face is beyond me. The Tories are nothing but a bunch of liars. Time to vote for Reform.
