Hello bikewrenchers,
I'm planning to retire my old Shimano Alfine drivetrain and replace it with an external gearing.
The bike is Charge Mixer, current Axle Type is 3/8" (9.5mm) ; OLN, 135 mm, vertical dropouts. See pic.
My question is whether it is even possible to gear up the bike with external gears. The bottleneck so far is finding a suiting derailleur hanger. Any suggestions, or ideas on the conversion?
Thx

It all depends on the frame, you need to see if your frame has a hanger spacer as some frames are used for both mechs and IGHs
Your frame looks like it’s steel and quite a lot of steel frames use brazed hangers not all but a lot.

A better picture of the dropout, it doesn’t look like you’ll be able to, so might need to upgrade to a newer Alfine IGH or Rohloff IGH.
Think hub width will be the killer here.
