Hi everyone! My 11year old girls are getting their first bmx bike. They are a tab bit taller than the average 11 year old. They fell in love with a 20" bmx bike at Walmart. Is the 20" to small for them? Would i be better off with a 24" bike?
The picture above is of one of them on a 20" Mongoose. The seat is raised.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Size is fine, that’s just BMX size, I’m 6 feet and I ride 20 inch. That however is not a good BMX, the single piece cranks are bad, the headset is bad. But as a first bike, until they decide if they’ll stick to BMX, probably fine.
Yeah, like the other guy said, virtually all BMX bikes have 20″ wheels, the only difference is in the length of the frame. If he rides it like most kids do, the quality doesn’t really matter that much. All the kids in my neighborhood ride around with flat tires and broken brakes and they’re all happy haha. If he gets into it and learns some tricks and is doing things like jumping down sets of stairs, then might want to consider getting a better quality one that can handle that kind of impact.
This is ain’t the right bmx bike to buy. These are made with mostly cheap parts that aren’t going to hold up for long if your kid is going to actually do any sort of jumps with it.
In addition to what others have said, if your kids want something thats comfortable to pedal in the saddle you may want to check out some type of MTB or hybrid. Typically you want the seat all the way down on a BMX, but ultimately there aren’t any rules and you can do what you want/like
