I bought this bike (Raleigh Max Ogre 15) for pennies, stripped it down to learn how it all goes together, and put it back together. I’ve received some bits for Birthdays and spent very little getting it to where it is now.
If you had £100 to “finish” it, what would you upgrade/change?
Worth noting, I want to commute on it only. Fair flat town under 5km commute each way. I’ve got mudguards and some bags ready to go on it once it’s ready.
It definitely needs:
– a clean
– new bottom bracket
Let me know your thoughts! Thanks

Well, you sorta answered the question yourself already.
Get a bottom bracket 😉
And maybe some lights so that you are more visible during your commute…
Repair it, detail it, sell it.
Buy a bicycle with disc brakes😅
Would spend that money on a good light and panniers/basket
I’d put new parts on it…. no but seriously, are you in a flat city? if so I’d go single speed, new crankset. by new I mean decent vintage alloy square taper road crankset from whatever bike shop sells used parts. not a ton of vintage single speed mountain bikes around.
id also probably get new lighter bars and stem.
Is that a fake Brooks? Looks comfy
I’d put on some better metallic brake levers. These plastic ones flex too much for my liking. And some less aggressive wide platform pedals.
It’s a nice commuter. Since you said it’s a flat town, money aside, I’d install a Shimano Nexus3 rear hub and shifter, lose the front derailleur and leave a single sprocket in front. For minimalism.
Front basket and new bottom bracket. And barend plugs.
New cransket with replaceable chainrings(to mount later) and new BB. New RD with a B tension screw 👌
