I’ve been waiting for Black Friday to pick up my first gravel bike. I was fairly open to most options so was waiting to see what was on sale today. The only must haves are hydraulic brakes, 1by group set, aluminium and preferably a good amount of mounting points. I have found the 2024 Cannondale Topstone Apex 1 Gravel for £1249 in my size and am happy it ticks all my boxes. Reading a lot of reviews online they mentioned it being overpriced but at 40% off it seems like a good price. What are peoples thoughts on the bike?

Yeah that’s a good price. I had the alloy topstone (2019) and now I have the 2023 carbon topstone, and I really like both of them. They have their issues (bottom bracket…) and you may want to upgrade the wheels down the line, but it’s a nice bike with a good geometry and good parts.
Also the topstone is pretty long, I had the size S before but now I have XS and it fits be better, so make sure you’re not stretched out on it.
I got the same bike as my first gravel bike this year. Couldn’t be happier! Now looking for a wheels upgrade. Probably DT Swiss GR 1600
I have an aluminum TopStone and it’s great. I’ve put 35,000 miles on it, lots of racing, lots of training.
Definitely a solid choice. It was on my shortlist when I picked up my first gravel bike last year but I went for a Sonder Camino in the end mainly because I could try it out first at my local Alpkit. Met a few people with Topstones since and they’ve all been happy with them.
