Hey all, my teen has a part-time job as a bike mechanic and is a mtn biker. He's asked for these tools for Christmas. They seem expensive 😶. I know nothing about this. Any recommendations on other great options for these tools? Or are the ones below different than other multi tools and should go with these?

You could get a lot more for the money going with Park tools.
This brand makes some nice stuff. I don’t know if there is anything out there just like these Multi way tools. Park makes a few 3 way ones. Personally would not be my first choice, then again I don’t work in a bike shop environment where having these handy will make things easier.
Abbey makes some of the nicest tools on the market, and you definitely pay for it, however their only sale of the year is right now so it’s convenient timing at least. You definitely could get more for your money from park tool or similar, but these tools are absolutely an investment, and will easily last a lifetime where others may not. I would say they’re worth the money if you can afford them, and it really does simply make working on bikes more enjoyable when you have nice tools that work well.
Personally I think Abbey’s stuff is way overpriced. But if he’s asking for Abbey, he’s probably very brand conscious so getting him anything else could be a let down. Even if you got him Park tools (which are less than half the price and are the gold standard for bike tools) he may be disappointed when he opens his Christmas present.
Maybe get him a gift card to an online retailer that sells abbey tools as well as other brands? Once he has the money in hand, he might make a more value driven purchase decision.
