My brake lever seems a bit spongy coming back. My bike mechanic looked at it and told me this is a general problem with these levers and it falls under warranty. He is willing to solve it with SRAM for me, but will charge 60 for warranty handling, 100 for deinstallation and installation. Any clue what this problem is and if it could be solved any other way?

Your brake pistons could be dirty. Take the wheels off. Take the pads out. Squeeze the lever to Vance the pistons. Be careful not to pop them out. Wipe them clean and then apply DOT fluid with a cotton swab. Rebleed if necessary.
Common for sram from what I’ve experienced, the piston in the lever gets dirt and debris in there and scuffs the surface up making it a bit slow to return and in some cases it doesn’t return, usually happens to the rear first because people use it more frequently, can get metal piston replacements and some people just sand the original piston down unsure if thats a genuine fix as I’ve always just bought a rebuild kit. With it only being minor id live with it a while longer
This is standard for AXS levers, nothing wrong here
