I’ve finally caught SP Fluxer MIPS helmet on a good deal and pulled a trigger.

Out of the box, Satin White color with matte white+glossy white accents finish looks really nice and high quality. MIPS air/padding looks completely unobtrusive and although it’s impossible to try how it functions in the heat now (northern hemisphere), helmet seems very well ventilated with sufficient openings.

I know there is a peer pressure to go with SP Falconer in Bronco White, but I couldn’t afford it and SP’s other offering Fluxer MIPS seemed to check all the boxes in my book – matt white color, contemporary geometry, light, well ventilated and safe.

First impressions re: fit – I really like how it looks on the head, zero 🍄 Very compact and not too bulbuous, complemented by matt white finish and contemporary geometry of the helmet itself and openings on it.

I have 56cm head and ML (56-59cm) fits somewhat narrow and elongated and creates pressure points symmetrically on each side in the back part of the head (where I am pointing with my finger). It’s like it’s really tight on the sides, particularly in the back part vs in length, where there is still a bit of room. Tightening the dial basically makes it even tighter side-wise, so there is a sweet spot point under which I can’t go or I’ll make it too tight side-wise. In spite of feeling of having the helmet tighter on the sides than in terms of length it sits tightly on the head and is not moving excessively.

In comparison to my existing Giro Agilis MIPS in size M, I can say that SP helmets are definitely meant for narrower head shapes, while Giro fit being far more forgiving in terms of width. Last image is a comparison – SP left, Giro right

I have also managed to try SP Falconer in L-XL (59-61cm, they didn’t have it in my size) in the store and the problem with too much length and too little width was perhaps even more prominent than with Fluxus or at the same level. Likely not helmets for folks with very round head shapes.

This initial feel of pressure points doesn’t seem like a dealbreaker though – I tried wearing the helmet for 2-3 hours around the house and it doesn’t seem to be uncomfortable (I forget about the pressure points after a while).

Anyone with similar experience? Should these fit imperfections affect safety? I really like how it looks on the head and don’t want to return it unless it compromises safety.

I have a round shaped head and get similar pressure points on oval shaped helmets. I would be good for about an hour before the preesure becomes pain. I would go with a brand that fits round vs oval.

  2. That lid has a very nice profile. Inspired to see if there are any Black Friday deals to take advantage of for next season.
