  1. I took off on Sunday 30/07/’23 from Brussels with a friend who’ld join me the first day and take the train back to Brussels in the evening. I’ld continue on by myself and eventually arrived at Lac de Sainte Croix/Bauduen on Sunday 13/08/’23. One day later than my friends who I had planned to meet up with. We stayed at the lake for two more weeks before they gave me a van ride back home.

The first 5 days I had headwind and rain and on days 2 and 4 it rained the whole ride. I always arranged sleeping accommodation for bad weather nights so I wouldn’t have to pitch my tent. Either at campsites or at “Vrienden op de fiets”. The second day it was raining non stop with a lot of wind. To make things even more fun I also got my only flat tire of the entire trip that day. Luckily that was the only bike trouble I suffered (besides losing both handlebar end caps somehow, but I easily found a bike store in Chalon sur Saône and got 2 new ones.) I did clean the drivetrain and lubed the chain every day.

The further south I got, the warmer it got. the last 3 days got into mid 30’s °C. The last two days had a lot of climbing and temperatures got to 35°C by 11 ‘o clock. So I made sure to be on the bike by 07 in the morning to get the most distance done before it got too hot.

The two weeks of chilling at the lake after the two weeks of cycling were the cherry on top. It was pretty hard getting back to work this week.
