Curious what folks think about these velocity chukkers on this univega. Worked with a guy at my lbs to pick things out and he built them up for me nicely. Took me a second to get into them I think coming off stock Araya rims but since doing a long section of the C&O and riding around town a lot they’ve grown on me a lot. Feels quite sturdy but still pretty light and quick for what I’m doing. Was continually breaking spokes and going out of true for months during bikepacking trips on the old rims so the added durability definitely makes me feel good and just love this bike in general but still feel like I learned a lot through subsequent research and may have gone some different routes. Anyone have new to old wheel set transitions they really liked or didn’t? Pictures are new to old.

I think they look pretty out of place on this frame, but if you like the performance that’s worth more than my opinion.
I love my Velocity Deep V’s on my track bike.
I think the bike looks fine with these wheels. I’m a big Velocity fan. I’ve built up two wheel sets with Dyads. Excellent quality, so much easier and satisfying to build with quality rims than some other well known economy rims. Not convinced your spoke breakage was due to the old rims though.
Did you re-use the old hubs?
EDIT: didn’t look close enough, hubs look different in the After shots.
