looks like the center is getting snagged on the top plate. it shouldn’t have that much to get all the way to the top.

Oil those dry ass cables!

First thoughts are lube those dry ass old brake cables. That’s your starting point. Then pull up a video of old gyros on YouTube and watch it. But first guess is the cables. Could be other stuff that needs lube in there. Hence the reference to a video for it.

Honestly get rid of that set up use a straight cable to the brakes for a better grab.. learn more fuck stuff too

Along with what else is mentioned, be sure to check your spring tension on your rear brakes. They need opposite tension to “pull” the cable back.

There’s a few reasons, mostly unbalanced tensioning in the cables. But this is clearly a super cheap Walmart type bike, cheap gyro, shafted stem etc, these honestly at the best of times don’t work very well anyway, worse if it’s got a v-brake on a gyro setup.

Gyros are not as bad as people say. Just take more finesse to get them right. Lube both front and rear cables until they drip out the other side of the sleeve. After that look up a video on how to properly adjust for balanced tension.

Seeing gyros setup poorly like that was always a pet-peeve of mine working at bike shops. The cable tensions are all wrong. You should see if there’s a YT on how to properly setup a gyro and sort it out. Also, your spacer is likely too big as the upper cable has a finite amount of travel and pretty sure you’ve exceeded that.
