I need the bike to be able to climb well, but I don’t want to be under biked at a bike park. I plan on bringing this bike to nearby states to experience riding elsewhere. Around here there are a lot of chunky rides that can be a bit harsh (sw desert).
My last bike wasn’t nearly as capable, so both of these will be quite an upgrade from where I was.

I have a Slash 9.7 and I LOVE it! Climbs well, good geometry and kills at the park.
You are comparing a trail bike vs. an enduro bike, so keep that in mind. The Slash is much more designed for big hits and bike park, where as the Trance is for all-mountain style riding. In general, the Trance will pedal better, but the Slash will handle bigger hits and fast techy descents better.
