I converted my old Brompton to electric with a Grin, direct drive, 500watt motor and I run it with my existing Ego 56v (7.5amp hour) lawnmower battery.
I had to order a little 3d printed adapter for the battery. I keep the battery in a Vincita Birch front bag. There is more than enough space in there for the battery and a six pack of beer.
On the flat, not peddling, the throttle only – it will do 26mph. It would do more but I limited the input wattage to 700 to avoid overheating. Grin tell me you can run the motor at 800watts.
All in all I am very happy with the kit. I put it together in a weekend and I now use the bike much more than I did before.
It still folds up just fine. Total weight of the bike without the battery is 35lb (15.8kg). That is a lot lighter than most electric bikes and still carryable when folded.

Did you lace up that front wheel yourself or did they sell you a meal at that size

Lot of weight on the front but looks great fun.
