I got clipless pedals for the first time and tried them out today. I got the Shimano ES600 pedals in combination with RX8 shoes that I could get heavily discounted. Now somehow the rubber sole got cut, assuming by the pedal. It looks like the circular disengage motion caused this. Is this a known issue or am I doing something wrong?

Adding to this (editing doesn’t seem to work), the left shoe does not show any sign of wear, but I did exclusively engage/disengage with the right foot. The cuts could of course also come from the engaging motion. I did fail to engage on first try a few times, but I also didn’t feel like I stomped the pedal like crazy or applied excessive force.
