Wondering why the front brake on this bike was so squishy, found a spring. Removed it and everything was fine. Is there a legitimate reason to ever use one on a v-brake?

It’s meant to prevent inexperienced riders from locking up the front brake, but in reality they just make the brake work poorly. You can absolutely remove it without issue
It’s a ‘safety’ feature, compared to traditional caliper and canti brakes v-brakes were so powerful that people kept going over the handlebars rather than crashing into things at low speed which is safer, so they put these springs in to stop riders from braking too much.
