I’m pretty much just repeating what I put in the subtitles here…

Way off in the distance (30 seconds ahead) I see a driver ahead pull out of the side road and block the cycle lane due to stationary traffic. I continued up the road, and when I got to where he was blocking the cycle lane I realised he wasn’t far enough into the road for me to cycle behind him as I usually would.
I started to go around him on the right-hand side, and at that point the queue of traffic started to move. The driver looked straight at me and stopped, so I continued past him, giving plenty of room. As I did so, he blasted his horn at me. I turned to look at him, pointed at the cycle lane and shouted “Bike lane? Use your eyes” – meaning he shouldn’t be blocking it in the first place.
The driver blasted his horn at me a second time as he overtook me, and I could see him screaming and shouting and giving me the middle finger – not paying any attention to the road in front of him.
I pulled alongside and knocked twice on his passenger side window with my gloved knuckle. The driver stopped and wound his window down. I told him “You were blocking the bike lane, I went around you. What’s your fucking problem?”.
The driver aggressively got out of his car and stormed up to me, saying “You banging in my car, I bang you” and then tried to shove me backwards. He then punched at my shoulder (aiming for my face) so U pushed him backwards, causing him to shout “Bastard, bastard!” at me and punch me in the ribs.
I pointed shouted at him “You, fuck off, get the fuck back in your car. Prick.”
The driver got back in his car and I called out the vehicle registration for the video / police report, since it’s not always visible in the footage, and then cycled off.

The police came and looked at the video, and said “What you want us to do about it?” I suggested a section 38 (basically a breach of the peace offence that doesn’t count as a criminal record) and the police officer argued that that would mean the driver could refuse to accept it and we’d all have to go to court. The officer suggested they send him a caution by letter, which I agreed to, and was then told that it would go to the registered keeper – that means they’re not even checking the driver’s details, much less making any sort of formal caution.

It’s really only a matter of time before I lose my rag with these idiot drivers.

  2. Hey! Your clip caught our attention, and we think it would be perfect for our new compilation on our social networks. Can we include it? We'll give you proper credit.

  3. Okay so he beeped his horn and definitely shouldn't have got out his car to approach, but you really should have just ignored him and been on your way instead of trying to argue with him.

  4. It seems an over reaction all round. He tooted his horn, so what, be the bigger man. Similarly why bash on the window. The car is a total shit bucket but he might be proud of it so got annoyed. He then got out and, let’s face it, is about as threatening as a baby made of jelly. If you had turned round and shouted boo he would have crapped it and jumped back into the horrible piece of shit he drives and sunk back into his miserable day.

If I had been the Police rep I would have told you to foxtrot oscar and stop wasting Police time.

  5. Dude! As soon as someone gets out of their car, DISMOUNT and put your bike between you two. Also, I carry OC spray when I ride for this reason shown here. Not sure the laws in the UK to carry or possess, worth looking into as it sure can defuse a situation.
