I’ve had this bike a year, bought it new from the manufacturer (Planet X tempest). This is how the bike came set up from the manufacturer.

I had some issues getting it dialled in initially. The b gap screw is backed out almost all the way, and I couldn’t set it to SRAM’s spec without locking up the shifting. I’ve also noticed that I have to bias shifting pretty far towards the smallest cog to get it to shift cleanly, and have to compromise on some noisy gears no matter what setting I choose.

More recently, the chain has started dropping into the spokes over the biggest cog occasionally. This got me thinking about the rear mech again.

I never considered that the chain might be too short – I guess I just trusted the manufacturer to set the bike up properly. In the largest gear, it does seem like it’s awfully tight, and I’m guessing I can compensate for lower tension with a more typical B-Gap setting.

Overall the bike rides well enough, and I’ve put a good number of KM on it this year on varied terrain.. I have occasionally got the nagging feeling that it’s not quite as “fast” as it should be, as if there’s a bit of friction somewhere. But I attributed thar to my legs and overall fitness. I’m not sure how much chain tension would noticeably affect that compared to other things anyway.
