I’ve been cruising around my city for about a year now on my first bike (old specialized sectuer) and ended up finding some gravel. Fast forward to this week and well, long story short, I ended up buying a 2024 Aspero GRX 1. Originally I had set out to purchase an aluminum frame gravel bike with good options for mounts so I could bike pack. The sales person ended up showing me all sorts of bike from hardtails to straight up road bikes. I ended up deciding on the Aspero after one lap around the building.
This is my first new bike so bear with me! This bike is fast, even on its 40c tires. It’s not the most nimble but it does handle very well, and if you trust it, it will get you out of some ticky situations. With the current wheels and tires it is a very forgiving ride. I’m used to 23mm tires and the big 40c add a level of comfort I’m not used to, they just roll over anything and eat up the all but the biggest bumps in the road.
I’m riding a 56 frame, and at 6’ and 210 pounds it fits me very nicely. I feel aero enough in the drops, but when on the hoods or flat I’m extremely relaxed and comfortable. It’s got a geometry that inspires you to take on the toughest roads simply because you know you’ll be comfortable. Not to mention it climbs fairly well! Now it is a 1-by and I understand there are way better options for climbing but it just eats when you start climbing.
So after my first two rides and about 40 miles on the Aspero, I can confidently say this bike is impressive. I’ve already registered for two races in 2025 (they’ll be my first too) so stick around and hopefully I can update y’all on it soon!
