I've seen a good amount of information on general guidelines on when to replace tires, but in my particular situation I'm not quite sure. I've been running these 25mm bontranger clincher tires for a few years with relatively infrequent use, probably about 3,000 mi total. They've developed, especially in the rear, a much flatter outside surface then they came with, but it doesn't feel completely squared off. There are also also some nicks in the tire. Is it time to replace these or is there still some life left? There's no wear indicator so I can't go by that.

  1. It depends on how far you ride and how fucked you’d be if the tire totally failed (1/2 mile walk or 10 mile walk). Also depends on if you’re bombing hills at 35mph or just casually riding to the corner store to pick up a 6 pack (risk of injury if the tire lets go).
