I grew up showing cattle for a Charolais ranch in Texas. My daughter showed cattle during her days in the FFA and she still (28 years later) talks about it being the best years of her life. It is hard demanding work but it instills in them valuable knowledge and great memories. When she sold her big Black Angus steer at Ft. Worth stock show we both cried like babies. She washed, groomed and trained him every single day of his amazing life. I think that the Future Farmers of America is one of the greatest organizations in the World 🌎
Winning the show is not the goal. The experience and quality time together is! We all cannot be the best of show but we can be the best for one another!!
Thank God she didn't win. If she had won she would be steaks on the table immediately after the show. A county fair demanded a little girls goat after the goat won. The girl refused and hid the goat in a different county. Cops investigated, found and seized the goat. The goat was slaughtered immediately after the cops stole it from the girl.
My brother Harry won the Highlands County Fair Sebring Florida Blue Ribbon for SHOWMANSHIP of his 1800 pound Limousine Steer. Somehow my brother's steer got out of the FFA barn for months 😢. The day before the fair they brought this wild animal that would kill you for getting close 😮 We got ropes around the steers neck and choked it to its knees to get the halter on. 😢 I said to my father. "Dad there is no way Harry can show this steer." My dad handed me a $20 and said. "Go to Publix and buy a case of Budwiser tall boy bottles." 😮 I replied. DAD, you don't drink Budwiser. " My dad said." Shut up and do what I said. " So with the steer tied up and can't get water. Next morning we get to the FFA barn. Dad gets a beer and a bucket. This steer has been tied all night in the center of the stall. He watches my dad and my dad pours the beer in the bucket and he gives it to the steer. Keep in mind this steer has not had a drink in 24 hours in Florida. An hour later my dad is bottle feeding the Steer scratching his head and cuddling like they are long lost friends 😅 2 hours later my brother gives a spectacular demonstration of ring showmanship of his Steer and wins the Blue Ribbon for Showmanship. So trailer trash son of a truck driver won where only the Millionaires rancher kids are suppose to win. 😅 DAD WAS AN INDIANA FARM BOY BITCHES 😅
U may not have won in the eyes of man (man being the abbreviation of human 🙄), but you have won in the eyes of your animals. Ultimately, that is the best reward ❤
